Forschungen zur baltischen Geschichte
The journal Forschungen zur baltischen Geschichte appears as a yearbook since 2006, published by the University of Tartu Institute of History and Archaeology and the Academic Society of History in cooperation with the Baltic Historical Board (Baltische Historische Kommission, Göttingen), the Nordost-Institut at Hamburg University (Lüneburg) and the Faculty of History and Philosophy at the University of Latvia (Riga). The founders and publishers of the journal are the University of Tartu Professor of Contemporary History Mati Laur and the Tallinn University Professor of General History and Estonian History Karsten Brüggemann. The editorial board includes also Prof. Anti Selart from the University of Tartu, Dr. Konrad Maier (Nordost-Institut) and Andris Levans, MA, from the University of Latvia. The editorial governing body engages historians from Germany, England, Denmark, Finland, Russia, Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia.
The time range of the journal comprises ancient times through contemporary history. Spatially, first of all, the journal includes studies on the historical Baltic area – present-day Estonia and Latvia, certainly in their historical connections with their neighbouring areas. Similarly, alongside historical research papers, the journal also offers space for reviews of new arrivals, taking up about one-third of its volume, thus fulfilling an essential gap in the scientific circulation and communication of the historians dealing with the Baltic historical research.
